The socially awkward 3rd child that pilots Eva Unit-1 gets pushed away by a number of characters throughout Neon Genesis Evangelion because of his insistence on existing as a passive bystander in his own life. After transforming the spine of the AAA Wunder into the Spear of Gaius, Commander Misato Katsuragi drove the ship through the eye of the Evangelion Imaginary, delivering the Spear to Shinji.
